JOCHEN
MILLER (Netherlands)

Jochen
van der Steijn, born in the Dutch city Mill, started his career
by the name DJ Jochen. In 2003 he changed his artist name into
Jochen Miller. The young deejay / producer already managed to create
his own recognisable sound, which can be described as style-blending
tech-trance: energetic, uplifting en high quality. Characterized
by up-tempo powerful melodies, few breaks and constant pumping
bass lines. The charismatic Jochen Miller is filled with passion
for music and ready to make it to the top.
How it all started
In his early teens Jochen developed his interest in dance music.
The lucky fact of his father having a discotheque gave him the
opportunity to practise on his mixing skills. There he became resident
deejay at the age of 16, followed by a residency at club Zino’s
(Tilburg, The Netherlands) when he was 18. In 1999 he made it to
the finals of the Dutch mixing championships at Dance Valley, where
he stood out from the rest because of his scratching, looping and
mixing with three turntables. Deejaying at afterparties in the
Lexion (Westzaan, The Netherlands) was not only a blast but also
instructive. Since 2001 started his infamous residency at The Matrixx
(Nijmegen, The Netherlands). ‘The surprise of the year’ the authoritative
Dutch ID&T Magazine denominated him, at the first edition of
the Dutch dance-awards in 2003. The two following editions kept
him at a steady 13th place, with only 4 international trance DJ’s
ranked above him, so Jochen Miller is sticking around to cement
his position at the forefront of dance music.
Jochen Miller the producer
Inspired by all of the pumping club tracks he played for his audience
every week, Jochen Miller decided to start producing his own dance
music in 2001. For about four full days a week, he can be found
in his home built recording studio. Working hard and being dedicated
to the fullest. The first slice of vinyl released by the name Jochen
Miller called ‘Vanity’ (ID&T free for all label) did very well
in the international dance scene. The follow-up ‘India’ made it
to the high positions of dance-charts around the world as well.
March 2005 Jochen Miller was in the top 10 of the Dutch dance charts
with no less than two hit records: ‘Miller & Fijneman – San
Andreas(Outstandin, Black Hole Recordings) and ‘Silent Electra
– For this moment’ (Jochen Miller remix, United Recordings). A
couple of remixes for his own side-projects such as Eastcoast’s
‘We are united’ (Midtown)and Silent Electra ‘Polarity’(United recordings)
raised the interrest of other producers, resulting in Jochen Miller-remixes
for Cor Fijneman(Monologue), Ton T.B.(Static Bullet) and Hemstock & Jennings(Mirage).
Jochen also continued his succesfull co-productions with Cor Fijneman.
Together they released two more smashing tracks, Mono Dura and
Genuine Draft, both on Cor’s label(Outstanding/Blackhole recordings).
With Boy Lamoen Jochen launched some side-projects, such as Lambler(E-cutz,
Germany), Modena, and Morrisson(both on Dedicated, United recordings).
His uncontrollable energy also drove him into another direction,
Jochen teamed up with Boy Lamoen to make trance music for Edward
Gal, the world’s first runner up in horse dressage. At this moment,
expectations are high for Miller’s latest tune,’Chromatic’, wich
will be title-track for one of Holland’s largest new outdoor event
Emporium.
Jochen Miller the performer
As word of his phenomenal productions spread, the demand for Jochen
Miller as a deejay grew naturally. Resulting in gigs and unique
initiatives all over The Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Finland,Poland,
Germany, Scotland, England Russia, and playing at The Space, the
hottest club in Miami (USA) during the Winter Music Conference
2004. Dutch highlights include dance events as Mysterland, Impulz,
Fast Forward Dance Parade Main Stage, Decibel Outdoor, Innercity,
Dance Valley, Trance Energy, Frequence, Defqon, Emporium, the summer
parties in Nijmegen (where he plays four days in a row for 6000
party people).
