MICHAL
POLIAK (Czech Republic)

Michael
Poliak started his carrier unlike any other DJs in Czech Republic.
Hailing from Breclav, his constant commitment to his work and
talent burst him into claiming a name in the international
electronic music scene.
Formerly known as BB Mike, he discovered his passion for DJ-ing
while on a trip to Canada in 2001, after performing at an underground
party and attending Montreal’s infamous record shop “Terminal”
run by local DJ hero Yaz - a staunch supporter of Montreal’s
biggest names like Misstress Barbara, Tiga and DJ Preach –
he then met the latter while browsing through records. Since
then, Michal learned the tricks of the trade by none other
but his idol: DJ Preach. After returning to the Czech Republic,
Michal decided to devote himself to supporting the local scene
by playing in clubs such as Fabric in Ostrava and even organizing
his own nights: Insomnia and Amnesia at Club Laguna in his
hometown. His contribution into the local scene attracted the
attention of Czech’s and Slovakia’s club promoters and gave
him the opportunity to perform at the most reputable clubs
such as Paradogs, Fabric, Bobycentrum, Barumba and many more.
In 2003, Michal Poliak became resident at Breclav’s hottest
nights at Citadela. His name very soon started to appear in
line ups of other big events such as Antistatic, Ibiza, Observer,
Stereodome… He then joined DJ Preach on a Balkan tour performing
in places like Bulgaria, Croatia and Kosovo and finally concluded
the trip with a last performance at “Gloom” party in the hills
of Quebec, Canada.
2004 added another addition to Michal’s DJ residency, claiming
his place at the infamous “O´Seex“ in Brno and “Bluck“ in Breclav
while building a name for himself in the surrounding neighborhoods
of Austria, Slovakia and Croatia. His lust for Canada continued
when he performed at “Cube” in Quebec City and decided to pursue
his production carrier after receiving pointers from his mate
DJ Preach.
In 2006, Michal was ready to take it to the next level and
landed performances at Czech’s most acclaimed festival “Hrahouse”
and club “Impremium” thanks to his funky and addictive sound
that resonated during his public appearances. Production wise,
Michal witnessed the birth of his first number which landed
him a spot on Citadela’s album compilation: Citadela Vibe III.
His strong dedication was inspired by the work of Bryan Cox,
Brazil’s Wehbba, Peppelino, Mojado and Len Faki. He was very
particular about colorful composition of melodious and energetic
rhythms. This led to the release of his first single in conjunction
with DJ Orbith titled “Phantom EP” later that year. Thanks
to the success of the latter, Poliak went on to collaborate
with DJ Preach on the one hit bootleg wonder “Crazy” featuring
Gnarls Barkley which gained support from international DJs
especially from Paul van Dyk.
This gave him the opportunity to release his first mix compilation
“Live from Barbarossa” and a list of other singles starting
with “Duplex 01” with DJ Orbith followed by his own independent
single on DJ Preach’s Relic Recordings label featuring remixes
by Filterheadz and Elton D titled “World Republic” that caught
the eye of Carl Cox and his BBC Essential Mix.
In 2007 Michal he entered the organizational team of the biggest
Czech indoor action: Apokalypsa, and took part in the realization
of this successful event with headliners such as Adam Beyer,
Cristian Varela, Space Djz, etc…
In 2008, Michael continued to climb up the talent chart by
rolling out nine new productions and gaining support of the
DJ masses like Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Gareth
Emery, Eddie Haliwell, Christopher Lawrence, Phynn, Andy Moor,
Suzy Solar, Flash Brothers, Orkidea, Martin Roth, Discomania
and many more. He then headlined some of the biggest events
in the region such as Transmission 2008, Creamfields Central
Europe, Machac, Free Summer Festival, Hradhouse etc…
2009 witnessed “Black Mamba EP” on Ying Yang records topping
the techno charts on Trackitdown.net for four weeks. On March
6, he was announced the producer of the month of February on
Slinky.fm’s CGI Sessions program. Later this year he was also
rewarded for his production when he claimed the third spot
on O2 Dance Music Award’s poll in The Czech Republic in “Project
or Band” category.
Michal Poliak’s latest project became his own radio show concept
called “World Republic” which started broadcasting on worldwide
radios such as Slinky.fm, DI.fm and PureSound and locally with
exclusive sessions on Czech’s own Danceradio.cz.
