JUDGE
JULES (UK)

Jules
took to the decks in 1987, launching the career that has easily
notched up millions of miles, a legacy of spins of the decks and
countless gigs in far-flung destinations, as well as the odd dirty
warehouse thrown in for good measure. Jules’ DJ sets are the epitome
of what DJing is about – passion and crowd-connection, amazing
tunes and a set of hands capable of the most nimble of mixing.
With a list of awards that would make the American Olympic team
blush, Jules has earned his place amongst the DJ aristocracy. Voted
in 2010 at number 18 in the worldwide Top 100 DJs poll, Jules has
won such accolades as – Best DJ (Muzik Awards), No.1 DJ (Mixmag
readers’ poll), Best International DJ (Dancestar), and Best Radio
DJ at the Smirnoff Dancestars.
Awards aside, Jules remains one of the most popular, in-demand
and influential figures in dance music, who has had the pleasure
of playing some of the most sought-after gigs.
More recently, Jules has been involved in penning the intros for
a number of sporting institutions, including the Premiership theme
and the boxer Amir Khan’s bombastic entrance tune. He has enjoyed
spinning at his beloved Arsenal FC’s stadium and also, in January
2007, at the 20/20 one-day Australia Vs England cricket match at
Sydney Cricket Ground.
Clubs
Jules’ appearances are spread between the legendary UK club scene,
and an equal number of far flung expeditions. He regularly spins
at all the top British club nights, as well as packing out fields
at the UK’s best festivals and weekenders including Creamfields
and Global Gathering, where in 2010, he became the only DJ to play
all ten years of the celebrated 50,000-capacity festival. His deck
dexterity is also consistently in demand throughout the rest of
the world: Western and Eastern Europe, the US, the southern hemisphere
(Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and India to
name but a few) and on the African continent (The Pyramids, Egypt)
and the Middle East.
Ibiza – Judgement Sundays
Jules’ presence in Ibiza is legendary. His weekly night, ‘Judgement
Sundays’, is one of the island’s busiest and most infamous. In
2009, Judgement Sundays celebrated ten years at the top of its
game – no mean feat for club night in Ibiza- and 2010 was equally
wall-to-wall rammed. Judgement Sundays and Jules also produce a
fortnightly podcast all year round, available for free download
via iTunes, with a last count of almost 300,000 subscribers. More
information on Judgement Sundays can be found at www.judgementsundays.co.uk
Radio
Jules started radio DJing in 1987 on the (then pirate radio station)
Kiss FM, which went legal in 1990, hosting the two flagship weekend
shows. In
October 1997, Jules stepped up to BBC Radio 1, where he has been
a pivotal figure in the station’s dance coverage ever since. He
can be heard on Friday nights between 11pm and 1am, as well as
playing a huge part in Radio 1’s well-attended live events.
His dulcet tones can also be heard across the globe, through the
‘Global Warm Up’ show, which is syndicated to many stations around
the world
Producing / Writing / A&R
Jules’ ear for a good track was put to good use as A&R for
Manifesto Records in the ‘90s, where he sniffed out some of the
biggest ever dance hits, including Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of
Consciousness’.
He went on to collaborate with fellow producer Paul Masterson under
the guise Hi-Gate. The project resulted in three Top 20 hits in
the UK charts.
In October 2006 a personal ambition was realised as Jules released
his debut solo album, Proven Worldwide, which was well-received
in both the UK and US. Eagle-eared listeners may have heard the
man himself contribute vocals on a few tracks! The album also features
a bonus DVD tracking Jules on his travels.
In 2009, Jules released his second well-received artist album,
Bring The Noise on Maelstrom Records which featured a selection
of ‘tried and tested’ dancefloor bombs.
In 2010 Jules ventured back into the studio, and released the summer
anthem Verano Loco, which became Mixmag’s Trance Tune of the Month.
Jules has now signed to the highly respected Spinnin label, and
another album is due in 2011.

Jules’ compilation credits include various TV-advertised ‘Judgement
Sundays’ compilations for Ministry of Sound and Warners, as well
