MIQUEL (Czech republic)

DJ Miquel (Michal Strouhal), a resident of the town Hradec Kralove, started to play in 1995. At first he just took part in discotheques, but during the year 1996 he appeared at first few real dance events where he played trance and house. His DJ´s beginnings are closely associated with L-Klub in Pardubice and DISCO 2001 club in Hradec Králové. He also acted as one third of Balistix project that appeared at the first Summer of Love Festival (1997). Hard trance they played was quite successful. A lot of concerts made during 1997 – 1999 proved that as well as an issued album by the defunct company called Virtual Label.

Miquel didn´t come into his own in Balistix so he often played as a DJ in the clubs throughout the Czech Republic. He started to make his own music and chose his own direction when leaving Balistix in 1999. Since then he has become closely related mainly with techno music. Miquel was one of the first DJs in the Czech Republic, among the dozen of the young, who set up his own techno label called LICKER and cut 4 records that got vast publicity. One of them was the first record of DJ Orbith (Sonnenmachine) that reached the 5th position at Dance Awards 2002 Survey, as a single of the year. Label Licker reached the 4th place at this survey. Miquel´s music has appeared on TechEx rec. vinyl and on various Czech CD compilations as well as on the compilations of the famous Czech magazines X-Mag and Bassline. Miquel occasionally holds his own parties. He used to organize the well-know party LOG IN that took place in L-Klub in Pardubice. It was featuring Chris Liebing in 2002 and Hardcell in 2003. Nowadays he is rather in favour of smaller parties, especially in the club Event in Hradec Králové. His own party nights are called GROOVE and he also performs in various clubs throughout East Bohemia.

You could hear Miquel playing mostly techno until 2006, but he has recently found himself in other styles such as house, electro and progressive.

His sets were to be heard at festivals Sunrising, Summer Of Love, Cosmic Trip, Hangars 2002, Planet Roxy, at the legendary Garage in Brno, Evolution in Prague etc. Miquel has already performed together with many significant foreign DJs, such as the duo Space DJz, Paul van Dyk, Marco Zaffarano, Corvin Dalek, Oliver Ho, Scan X, Regis, Chris Liebing, Hardcell, CJ Bolland, Monika Cruse, and many others.
