OLIVER
LANG (UK)

2009
was Oliver Lang’s biggest year to date. After signing with Integrity,
Oliver played at all the hottest venues across the globe, signed
a publishing deal with the iconic Fabric and simultaneously released
tracks on top labels including Toolroom and Blackhole. No stopping
there though; he prepared the launch of his new record label Dojo
too! To sign-off on a great year and kick-start a new one, Oliver
was booked for New Year’s Eve to play in front of a 10,000-strong
crowd at the Centennial Hall in Wroclaw, Poland. His regular headliner
bookings for leading nights across the UK have paved the way for
two new major residencies starting in 2010 with industry heavyweights
Perverted Audio at Matter in London, and leading global clubbers
brand Gatecrasher. All this plus tours of Australia then Asia,
and a full season in Ibiza, testifies to the fact that we are guaranteed
another exciting year ahead from Mixmag’s “Hero of House”.
Having grown up in a musical household, with his Dad playing bass
for 60's pop band ‘The Mindbenders’, Oliver set out dj-ing in clubs
aged 14. By 16 he had released his first record, and at 18 he packed
up his record box and moved to Ibiza where he landed his now legendary
residency for Bora Bora. Sharing his time between the White Isle,
his hometown of Manchester and his busy international schedule
means 2010 will see Oliver continue to blow the crowds away
with his chunky, underground tech-house sound infused with elements
of techno and unrivalled enthusiasm, that guarentees to get any
dancefloor rockin.
Beyond being a prolific DJ, it is really all about the tunes for
Oliver. Following on from his production success in 2008 with big
room track ‘Bomb The Terrace’ released on Azuli which also made
it onto one of the legendary Space album compilations, he received
critical acclaim for his remix of the Ibiza anthem ‘Café Del Mar’
which was championed by the likes of Sasha. During 2009 Oliver
teamed up with Goodlooking Records producer Rob Blazye (aka J-Laze)
and it quickly became apparent they were going to be an irrepressible
partnership.
Their early underground efforts were snapped up by Kosmo, Bashi,
Mc Grooves and Loudbit, leading to Blackhole snapping up tracks
‘Full Tilt’, ‘Pressure Drop’ and ‘BANG’ which were championed by
Tiesto on his radio show. Additionally, Oliver and Mark Trophy’s
‘Northern Hustle’ (a take on DJ Joeski’s ‘Hustler’s Revenge’) had
great success on Toolroom at the start of the 2009 and lead to
Oliver’s solo follow-up EP ‘Mad Cat’ coupled with the sublime ‘Dying
To Live’ which came out on 25th January 2010 and reached no 18
and 7 respectively in the Beatport charts.
His remix achievements include Kristine W ‘Feel What You Want’
(Champion), Tom Novy's ‘My City’ (Kosmo), Andy Duguid’s ‘My Number’
(Blackhole), and his masterful rework of the seminal Ibiza classic
‘Mystery Land’ by Y-Traxx released on Nebula.
Then there is DOJO! Oliver’s label Launched in January 2010 and
already lays claim to a string of successful releases. Oliver recently
explained the philosophy behind the label, named after a mad night
out at the legendary DC10 he explains, “Dojo aims to represent
good quality underground house and tech house … there is so much
fantastic music out there I and a lot of these tracks never see
the light of day. So It just came to me that I could be pushing
this music and giving it the lease of life and profile it deserves;
it is no real phenomenon, I just want the label to be held in high
regard in ten years time just as any of the greats of yesteryear
are, I want people to click on every release and know it is a winner”.
Underlining Dojo’s credentials as a label to watch out for comes
DOJO Ibiza Sessions 2010 which will feature as a covermount CD
